Hello,

I was lucky enough to get a Star Alliance upgrade using UA miles on an ET 071 issued ticket from S class to business (I class).
There were two one way tickets - EWR-LFW and LFW-EWR.

On the outbound, there was some confusion and ET reissued the ticket at EWR.

On the return, there was also some confusion but ET at LFW forced the boarding pass.
Now ET is contacting me requesting payment of $1,250 for the return upgrade LFW-EWR saying they just forced the upgraded boarding out the system and didn't collect the fee.
I replied that it was a Star Alliance upgrade using UA miles and provided them the 016 098... and 35,000 mile deduction receipt.

Firstly, do Star Alliance upgrade awards using UA miles on ET even require a reissue?
Also, how could it be this confusing? This program has been around for years.
At least I was boarded and didn't have $1,250 demanded at the LFW check in desk.

Anyway just a word of caution.
