while owned by Qantas just assume it is a separate airline. It is a LCC so you need to bundle bags, seats, food etc, but prices can be cheap. Everyone here says not to take them, but for short flights, I have found the, fine when bundled, and if irrops will rebook onto QF. They are just a pain with connections and if you have to take them where only JQ fly then it gets difficult if it goes wrong.
JQ do NOT always rebook onto QF. My JQ cancellation had staff rebooking pax onto VA because QF refused to take anyone because they “were saving seats for their own upcoming cancellations” (none showing on the big boards at that stage). But it was only a 6 hour wait after walking from MEL T4 to T1 and back several times. Was I happy? No. And QF status meant nothing to JQ.
Use JQ at your (very big) risk.
