Speakers in Checked Luggage
As part of an upcoming trip overseas, I am planning to bring a pair of high-quality powered (non Bluetooth, no battery) speakers with me as part of my checked luggage allowance. Each comes in its own carry bag, and fits within the First Class weight.size limits of AA.
I've chedked on the TSA wabsite, and they are explicit that speakers ARE allowed in checked luggage: https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/whatcanibring/items/speakers.
They also have no restrictions with regard to magnets: https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/whatcanibring/items/magnets
And on the list of restricted items on the AA website, there's no mention of speakers being limited in any way (other than the restrictions that apply to batteries, which aren't applicable in the case of what I plan to bring): https://www.aa.com/i18n/travel-info/baggage/restricted-items.jsp
HOWEVER: buried way down at the bottom of the page on Special Items and Sports Equipment (https://www.aa.com/i18n/travel-info/baggage/specialty-and-sports.jsp), there's a vague note about speakers:You can travel with a maximum of 2 small portable speakers or 1 sound bar for personal use; total will be calculated between carry-on and checked bags.
I've looked around here, and didn't see any reports of anyone ever having problems checking speakers, so I feel like I'd probably be OK. On the one hand - to avoid any problems at check-in, I want to call AA to ask them to clarify this before I go to the airport to check-in. But on the other hand, I kinda feel the TSA website affirmation (and the lack of any mention of speakers on the Restricted Items page) would be enough to have them accepted. But with everything seemingly being so arbitrary these days, it feels a bit of a crapshoot.
So, forum: any idea what that mention on the "Special Items" page is about, and/or whether I really should be worried about my speakers being refused check-in at the airport?
Thanks in advance...
