e.g. I tried this itinerary

Priceline kept the flights but dumped them all into economy instead of PE. For SAS, it does support upgrading the itinerary to PE, but then forces you to do it for both legs instead of just the outbound as in the original.

SAS website lets you do it but then won't offer the option of a 22-hour layover. Since their site won't let you book multi-city itineraries either, there's literally no place that will let you book this yourself.
I tried this itinerary and it seems to work with cheapoair, lucky2go and onetravel to varying degrees. Both cheapoair and onetravel show PE for both directions but differentiates Sas Plus Smart vs Light underneath. Lucky2go seems to correctly display PE for the outbound and ECO for the return.

Funny enough, the old and new matrix powertools works slightly differently in that newmatrix can differentiate class per leg (in addition to fare code) whereas oldmatrix only knows the searched class. So Priceline works for oldmatrix and creates all ECO flights but doesn't work for newmatrix because powertools tries to price PE on the outbound and ECO on the return.
