The any airline thing has been a big plus for me at LAX - I have routes that neither AA nor AS cover well (LAX-DEN) so it's convenient to go to the AS lounge in T6 before heading over to a UA flight in T7. If I lose that benefit, it starts to make more sense to get an AC membership through a CC when it's time to renew next month.
The amount of people who know that getting an alaska lounge membership through the citi card is cheaper, and will open a card instead of renewing, is exceedingly small
