Next year you'll have one more boost - the new MPYP to gift 20 tiles. So when you and your wife each qualify for M1 and get a MPYP, she can gift you 20 tiles, you can give yourself 20 tiles, and you'll almost be M2.

So an open question: My wife and I are not selecting our MPYPs until 2024, counting on assurances that MPYPs don't expire until 12/31/2024. Will those MPYPs earned in 2023 be usable for the new 2024 MPYPs? If so, then I could get 20 tiles from mine and 20 from hers.

I'll find out on 1/1/24.
