It's well documented in this thread that the AS award search doesn't always show JAL flights at the edge of the booking window, even when those show up on AA.com or if you search for a round-trip instead of a one-way. There's also been discussion elsewhere about the "new" search interface AS launched this year. One big advantage of using the new search interface is that it seems to show this previously hidden availability. In short, don't rely on the award calendar or the classic search to find JAL availability 330 days out. I've attached some screenshots comparing the availability across the different search interfaces. As you can see, the old search and the award calendar hide a ton of far-out award space.
