1) pax was not experienced flyer and assumed things could be solved at the airport. Most airline passengers are not experienced at all.

2) it was not obvious to the pax they would miss flight until they were already close to the airport, because they had boarding pass from online check in, no luggage and original flight had posted a delay.

3) pax did not have credit card , which would be accepted by Emirates over the phone (sanctioned country). Even if Emirates would accept it, OTP verification would be difficult to do quickly over the phone in foreign country.
