The next flight wasn't until 1am, so they should have stopped, gone to a cafe/whatever, bought a SIM card, or used wifi to rebook online. Then proceeded to the airport.
This, waiting to get to the airport was the wrong thing to do, pax needed to contact EK before the flight closed.
