It must have been obvious at least 90 minutes before the scheduled flight departure that the passenger was not going to make the flight. That is when they should have been trying to make the change. The next flight wasn't until 1am, so they should have stopped, gone to a cafe/whatever, bought a SIM card, or used wifi to rebook online. Then proceeded to the airport.
