Fair enough, but FRA with all the construction going on is also a bit of a mess. And the lines to the East are usually OK, having been rebuilt in the 90s/early 2000s. Also, no flights to Erfurt...

This. Long-distance tickets are valid on the day of departure (you must start the trip on that day) and the next day, with as many stopovers as you would like. No need to buy separate tickets.
