Some of the sidewalks around here (SF metro area) are from a century-plus ago (lots of contractor stamps in the concrete) and some have held up well. Others have been busted by trees and sanded, replaced, etc. I'm about to get hit with a 50% share of whatever the City's purported costs are for sidewalk repair due to trees that the City's Urban Forestry Department prohibits me from chopping down, even though PG&E agreed to do it at its own expense (instead of paying its tree service every year), and also, the City will trim them when I complain that it is interfering with my cable lines, which get chewed up from branches from time to time.
Or, just come to Mission Bay. The sidewalks are very new, and yet falling back into the earth.
