Well yes and no. For example (just to pick two I flew this year) TAP and KLM offer a couple of rows of Economy Comfort (i.e. with the amount of legroom required for a normal European man 6 foot tall to sit comfortably) and business class has the same legroom, which is significantly better than standard economy. As I understand it BA just has one incredibly cramped legroom size throughout. I personally chose to take a 3.5 hour flight (Madeira to London) on RyanAir recently because I could get seats with decent legroom, and lots of baggage allowance for less than half of the price of BA Economy and about a fifth of the price of BA J.
