I just spent a week in Oakland, which included riding BART to/from the airport, BART into SF, walking down Broadway, and a lot of walking around SF as well. Honestly things looked pretty good. The business areas were not nearly as busy as they once were, but the neighborhoods and the touristy areas had a lot going on.
