For upgrade benefit, the type of room you booked
If you booked suite all the time then the value of upgrade benefits will drop to close to zero unless properties goes above and beyond and upgrade you further (there are some properties that doing this but its rare)
However the remaining benefits is still valuable.
Like late check out (nice to have room to lazying around until the time to go airport) and the points earned could have some value too.
Btw, some expensive cities like Singapore, S$500 only get you base room in a Marriott.
