Hm, did CX availability on BA and AA diverge at some point? There's a bunch of SYD-HKG flights I've been looking at where it would appear there's plenty of availability on the BA site but none on the AA site, and AAgents can't seem to locate the award space when I call in.
Edit: Just checked AS, which doesn't seem to have any availability either..., though Y is showing. Seems like CX is releasing space to BA but not AS/AA
Are you only looking for SYD-HKG or are you looking to continue on to North America?
As a general rule AA awards do not allow you to transit a 3rd region on one award. There are exceptions but transiting HKG to go from North American to Australia is not one of them. You can find a lot of blog posts on AA award routing rules that go into more detail. You can piece it together with two awards unless the segments are married segment restricted.
I don't believe AS allows SYD-HKG on CX by itself. You can only book it if included in an award that continues to North America.
