Now I'm really confused. Are you on a single AAdvantage award ORD-SFO-HND-SGN? Are you on two separate awards ORD-SFO and SFO-HND-SGN? Are you on a cash ticket ORD-SFO, and an award SFO-HND-SGN?

Unless you are on a single award from ORD to SGN, the only way AA would allow you to through-check bags and protect you in the event of IROPS is if both tickets (award + award or cash+award) were in the same PNR.
