Wanted to provide my positive experience using SoSIM just now --

I was looking for an e-SIM to equip my family with for their upcoming trip to HK. I was resigned to using one of those data-only SIMs, but then found SoSIM through the discussion above and a separate review site.

It was pleasingly easy and very satisfactory. I bought the e-SIM online, which seems to be a change/development from the above which said it was physical SIM only. The delivery of the QR was by email, instantly on purchase.

I was a little worried about a reported delay (days?) in ability to activate the SIM because of a need to provide identification (scan to prove identity), and whether this could only be done while on-network physical in Hong Kong. And whether trying to do it from the USA would somehow negatively flag the SIM for trouble. However, we actually found that the SIM could be activated while here in the USA, and receive the enrollment text messages too. This was important to me to be able to help set up the chip, without being with the travel group in HK.

The enrollment was pretty simple (visit website on the phone being enrolled, scan ID card) and within minutes it was done. Rather than wait for registration approval, it seems that if you scan an ID card (no manual entering info) it defaults to approval, and only if something is wrong on review it may be rejected later. It may be that HK ID holders go a little more smoothly than others, but I'm not sure on this point. I was a little worried that it wouldn't allow activation from overseas and they would have to follow a complicated process using the ICCID and followup text message, but this was avoided thankfully.

Then, set all the default/roaming/swapping settings on iPhone, and it's ready. Anyway, they landed and I was instantly able to see them taking the airport express train with their location using the cellular data.

I am just amazed that this was only $33 HKD for 1500 minutes + 50 GB for 30 days. How is that possible? Or maybe that's just our US poor cell carrier expectations. Anyway, it has apparently all worked out great.

Thanks all!
