We ideally would have taken the next flight - PHX 9:25a to LAX 10am, but am concerned about the flight being delayed/cancelled due to time of year and not making that international JAL flight at LAX (the next SW flight after this would not get to LAX in time). We will have business lounge access at LAX, but that is still an incredibly long time to be there, and if we end up having check in luggage, my understanding is we can't check that in for the JAL flight until 3 hours before so have to spend several hours elsewhere/roaming before that time.

So... Would you switch to that later SW flight and chance it being late/cancelled or just stick with the crazy early flight to ensure there are no issues?

Thanks in advance!
Can you switch your PHX-LAX flight to an AA flight? Then call AA and ask them to connect the two PRN so it is one trip in the system. That way you can check in at PHX for your entire trip and tag your luggage all the way to HND and not worry about it, and can stay air side at LAX. It's really baffling why you wouldn't do this to be honest.

Don't try to save a few bucks with Southwest... it's not worth the stress and potential problem. You have to collect your luggage at LAX and recheck them with JL which makes 3 hours the minimum time you need. Anything shorter is asking for trouble.

If you are on AA from PHX to LAX, 3 hours is plenty of time to connect to LAX-HND. If you want to use WN, you should stick with the 7am flight. Or arrive the night before as suggested.

1. This is a bit weird for me because its OW onto *A - any have any experience on this, did you get all boarding passes issued at original airport?

2. From what I've read, T6 and T7 are connected airside, is this info correct? If so I'm guessing I would need the afforemtioned boarding passes required above or is there some sort of transfer desk airside?
immigration and customs if so?
or is this all moot and i have to go through security again
Who issued the ticket? AS or UA? Different alliance is not a problem. If the ticket is issued, you should have no problem checking in. Boarding pass is not related to check in per se. You may have to claim your boarding pass at the gate if for some reason AS cannot print it. Just make sure your luggage is tagged to AKL when you check in at SEA so you don't need to exit security at LAX to pick up the luggage.

There is no exit immigration or custom in the US so you just walk from T6 to T7 air side to board your next flight. Passport check is done at check in by AS. If you are not a NZ or AUS passport holder, there is a chance that UA may want to review your ETA at gate side. If that is the case, they will call you at the gate.
