Adam Smith I agree with your concerns re: the quality of CBC reporting ... but a clip on the news is always going to be pressed for time.

Of course there are always going to be differences in recollection regarding the details surrounding such a traumatic event - so who knows what the real facts are. It would be interesting to know exactly what was relayed to the pilot, but I doubt those details will ever surface.

It's a tough call. Diverting is both expensive and disruptive, so you don't want to do that unless it's truely required, but that question is not trivial to answer. The situation is obviously difficult, and if there are no medical professionals on the plane then I don't have a better suggestion than relying on an external medical service ....
