I have a BA award flight, one way ATL-ORD on Friday. Metal is AA. I just had a stroke and can't take this trip. Do I ask for a cancellation via BA or AA? The BA app couldn't do anything. Will I get my Avios back? There aren't many, but I'd prefer to have them returned.
Thank you.
Very sorry to hear about your medical situation. Wishing you a good recovery.
To cancel any award travel booked with BA, you must do so through BA -- regardless of operating carrier. I would try doing so via ba.com, before phoning BA. As long as you cancel at least 24 hours before scheduled departure time, your Avios should be fully refunded, but you will forfeit the $5.60 September 11 Security Fee you paid at time of booking, in lieu of BA's normal $55 cancellation fee.
