I fly united a lot, and occasionally (thankfully not always) have to travel with a suit. And I've realized that I'm always always miserable when I do so---I've tried regular garment bags, I've tried those bizarre duffel garment bags, the problem is that they all end up being too heavy to haul around airports, public transit in destination cities, etc., on a single shoulder. This has got to stop. I also hate to check bags.
So naturally, I went looking for rolling garment bags that can be carried on. But all the companies that seem to advertise carry-on rolling garment bags also list dimensions that are bigger than the limit, except for one bag from Briggs & Riley that costs $650. United
lists its limit as 9x14x22 (inches). But:
Travelpro has three different rolling garment bags available and advertised for carryon.
This one's 8.5x16x22, so two inches too many in one dimension.
This one's 9x15.75x22.
This one's 9.5x15.5x22.25. There's also a sold out one which is, lo and behold, too big.
Briggs and Riley advertises two carry-on garment bags. One is
9x16x21. The other is the only one that seems to qualify, at
9x14x22 exactly.
Swissgear has one at
11.5x13.25x20.25. Some no-name brand sold at walmart has one at
8x17x21.
Samsonite doesn't seem to have any even in the ballpark. Neither does Delsey. Away doesn't sell a rolling garment bag at all. Neither does Rimowa. Neither does Calpak. Neither does July. Antler doesn't sell one currently I guess, though they used to. Neither does Beis. Neither does Paravel. Neither does Monos.
Even Tumi's is half an inch too big at 9x14.5x22. And that's a thousand bucks.
So... is that it? Is there one rolling garment bag on the whole market that counts as a carry-on within united's dimensions, and it's a $650 B&R piece? Really?
