Holiday Inn Auckland Airport
What is your Priority Club status?
Diamond
Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes. The hotel provided what we needed (no fuzz stay near the airport before early flight) at a reasonable price.
Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked three Standard Room. One was upgraded to a 1 Bedroom Suite and the other two to King Premium.
How are the rooms?
The 1 Bedroom Suite is around 1.5x the size of a standard room, basically the space for a standard room as the living area, and making use of the building's odd-shaped corner as the bedroom.
The living room had a full set couch (sitting 6) with a long table. The bathroom had a jacuzzi bathtub.
The room was dated but very clean
How is the exec. lounge?
N/A
What was good and what was bad?
The good:
- Welcoming staff despite the long wait (we had a large group arriving before us and the hotel did not have a dedicated member counter)
- Meaningful upgrade, the living room in the suite came in handy
- Bar food was quite good and reasonable priced
The bad:
- It's an airport hotel but without its own shuttle. The public Yellow Bus costs 8 NZD. We ended up booking airport transfer
- The room felt dated and one of our rooms had a pretty bad moldy smell (but was promptly changed)
- The hotel had no elevator and they honored my "high floor, away from elevator" preference to the top - we were put in the upper floor so had to carry all our bags up and down plus walk about 150m walk on carpet 🫠
The ugly:
- Despite in the "quiet zone", a group of rowdy guests arriving around 2am woke us up. Certainly no fault of the hotel
- Wi-Fi is not encrypted
Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Paid 23K/night for 220 NZD room. Good value for points, but I probably should've opted for a property in downtown Auckland.
