Yes -- unless you have AAdvantage elite status.

It could be either, at AA's discretion. Perhaps AA only uses one of those groups on flights with few "Main Cabin" passengers who are not also AAdvantage members.

Also what is group 6 AAdvantage members?
"Main Cabin" passengers who are AAdvantage members (enrollment is free) and whose AAdvantage number is in the reservation record will be assigned Boarding Group 6 -- unless they are entitled to a higher boarding priority.

AA does include this warning on its website:

"When you’ll board


"Basic Economy passengers board last, typically in Group 9. Overhead bin space is usually full by then, so plan to check your carry-on bag and bring only 1 personal item on board."
