Tunis is a small but sprawling city with a compact centre. No hotel is a long way from the airport, especially for a post-midnight arrival. So city centre hotels like the Africa (a bit shabby these days) could enter the mix, as could hotels in the coastal resort suburbs like la Marsa, but mornings bring rush hour traffic and I'd prefer to be in Berges du Lac, close to the airport.
Following your recommedation, along with a nice Genius 2 discount at booking.com, I've booked into the Maia Hotel Suites for one night between my very late-night arrival and next day late morning departure. Messaged the hotel to find out their Airport Shuttle fee. They replied that transfer from hotel to airport for 50 TND (about £13). I assume it would also be the same from the airport to the hotel. Does that fee seem reasonable? I think it will save some hassle for a 23:30 TUN arrival and avoid needing any TND cash (pay for it at the hotel reception with a credit card).
