Cancun to US Overhead Bin Space?

Hi. Has anyone here flown from Cancun to the US and ever had an issue with no overhead bin space with american? Or if it's delta or jetblue? And if so, I assume you were basic economy or the last group or it's possible for this to happen if you buy a main cabin ticket? Let's assume you book it with a credit card and you do not have an airline credit card or anything like that. The reason I ask this is because I have taken many flights from Cancun to the US and vice versa and not once have there been no available bin space. There were times where I did had to put my carry on messenger bag in another area not near my seat but I'm fine with that. Also, every ticket I purchase has almost always been basic economy with delta or american and jetblue blue and I am pretty sure I was in the last group to board almost every time except jetblue because jetblue basic boards last. Then again... jetblue basic are not even allowed a carry on bag.

Has anyone here flown from Cancun to the US recently and had this happen with any of these 3 carriers? I do know when you wait to board, someone always announces if anyone wants to gate check their bag for free and I notice almost nobody volunteers for that? Now if you have a carry on messenger bag that contains all electronics, you obviously cannot gate check it if the bag is bulky. The messenger bag fits in the overhead bin space without any issue.

My question is has anyone had this issue before? Would it be better to pay for a main cabin seat whether american or delta just so you won't be the last group to board? I never thought about this until a while back when I noticed I didn't had overhead bin space next to my seat and had to put my messenger bag several seats from me... but again I have no issue with this. Now with jetblue blue seat... surely that is more than enough and a jetblue blue extra is completely unnecessary? Now obviously if you know if a flight is going to be packed and full, then there is a chance overhead bin space will be limited. So another way to do this is check the flight on the website and take a look at how many seats are available still say few days or a week before departure? Are there certain days like almost everyone will be flying that day so high chance of a packed flight? The thing is I been on many flights that has been packed and not once has there not been overhead bin space available. Is boarding the last group very risky? Again I have boarded the last group probably like almost everytime and never had an issue with overhead bin space even on full flights.
