Here’s the thing (in almost any industry), you make an exception, do a favor, or give someone a break their neighbor expects the same thing. “But Bob was able to take 50lbs including all his gaming devices, why can’t I?”

Can’t live without all that? Take a bus or train.
Because Bob isn't legally allowed to check the lithium batteries in his devices, that's why. Don't be so daft, good luck taking a train from Australia to London.

Lithium powered devices can't be checked in... period! So should not be included in cabin weight limits.... they literally MUST go in the cabin. I'm not talking about taking 2 weeks worth of clothing in my cabin bag, that can be checked without issue and only minor risk of it not arriving with you. Lithium powered devices can't be and can easily take a hand carry beyond 7kg very quickly.

And since that comment was so clearly aimed at me, actually I don't have a gaming laptop because I game. They have a combination of high power GPUs, CPUs, and more plentiful RAM that I require for video processing and other professional tasks, so is a no brainer, but they are very heavy compared to some road warrior's MacBook Air that's good for nothing more than Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. I actually do typically put the power brick in my checked bag because it's ridiculously huge and heavy. I can do with a 65W USB C PD charger in the airport that doesn't weigh all that much and can easily go in my pocket if needed. But I do need the power brick to actually utilize the GPU power, it pulls WAY too much power for any USB C PD charger.

My own issue, because I've been either OWE or *G for many many years, I have PLENTY of baggage allowance and prefer to ditch as much as I can into the hold so I don't have to deal with it in the airport. Most of what's in my backpack can't be checked in, but that doesn't mean it's light as a feather. I typically have 1 lightweight merino sweater in it, that's it for clothing. I've only been challenged on it once in the past 10-15 years, that ironically was QR and I just said nearly everything in there has a lithium battery and the conversation was finished. But actually I think they were trying to do me a favor because I'd just broken my leg and was in a wheelchair, I don't think it was actually the weight itself.
