Rules are rules, but does it really make a difference between an extra 2 kg's in a cabin bag, or if those 2 kg's were shifted into a checked bag at the end of the day for load and fuel purposes seeing as the weight is the exact same? As mentioned above, what about if you simply put on an extra 5 kg's of jackets, jumpers, sweaters and pants out of your carry on to comply. It does seem a bit ridiculous in some circumstances.
Some Asian airlines are already weighing passengers. Sooner or later some airline somewhere will introduce the 100kg total person plus baggage ticket and then shifting things between bags or stuffing your pockets at check-in won't be an option...
