Is 35 minutes a legal connection for Schengen to non-Schengen at HEL? If not, you might be able to get a 24-hour, 35-minute connection at HEL, since you would be connecting to the first (legal) HEL-ORD flight.

Edited to add: Much to my surprise, 35 minutes is a legal connecting time for MAD-HEL-ORD:

If you were to misconnect due to late arrival of the MAD-HEL flight, AY would be required to rebook you, and would have to provide or reimburse you for overnight lodging and meals -- if required -- under EC 261/2004.
