I assumed a UA-ticketed codeshare in A would occupy E space in ANA's eyes and it's a simple switch of flight #. But my assumption could be wrong....
There was plenty of E space on ANA HNL-NRT for my current flight, so couldn't test your hypothesis of space needed beyond that currently occupied being available.
