Trying to figure out how I was able to do this. Booked three BE award tickets for three people, one-way. I wanted to cancel mine and leave the other two in tact. Delta.com offered me a full refund of taxes AND miles. How? Basic Eco award tickets have a cancellation penalty in miles that comes out of the redeposit I think? Flight was US domestic one-way and booked about 5 weeks out. I cancelled it 8 days before departure. I def didn't expect to get any miles back and thankful I did. Just curious is all. I'm currently Delta Silver.
