How would one have status on AA? You would need one of their AA credit cards right? Because I do not. I have a regular bank credit card that I been using since way back in the days. I have flown with american several times and never had to gate check a bag. I did recall either american or delta asked if anyone wanted to gate check a bag on the announcer but I think very few people if any ever do that. So you are saying it is much more likely you have to gate check a bag on american compared to delta if you book basic economy on american compared to delta?

Well boarding before economy would increase the chances of overhead bin space though right since well they also have checked bag? The thing is I always want to make sure I'm not waiting at the back of the line when boarding in basic economy, whether it's american or delta because of overhead bin space. So if you book with american and do not have status, you have to book main cabin plus to guarantee overhead bin space then? But more often than not, main without status is enough? Does that mean if you have status and book basic economy, you have priority or not?
