I actually find the shopping button to be really useful to make sure that everything is working. Recently my Chromebook updated, which updated chrome, and now tracking in incognito mode seems to be broken. I only noticed this because the button was showing it as not activated when I went to giftcards.com. Clicking "activate" would reload the page but it still would show as not activated.
So now I use regular mode instead of incognito mode, and that's working. I don't use chrome for much else other than Google sheets and sometimes gmail so hopefully my cookies don't get messed up to the point where it starts breaking things. I guess I'll have to be vigilant about clearing more often.
