This may not always be true but I've done some price comparisons before and it seems AA charged considerably more for a codeshare flight with AS and it was a better deal to book it directly with AS anyway. Never had a problem getting miles, etc credited to AA either.

I agree with this statement 100%. We booked SFO-HNL on AS and used AA FF#. The AS fare was hundreds of dollars less than going through AA for the codeshare of the same flight. No issues when premium seats became available, and we ultimately were in F on both legs of the flights.
