I don't see why they can't give people the option to choose a takeaway cup in the app. When travelling out of AKL (especially on morning flights to AU/Asia) I quite often take a coffee with me on the way to the gate.
The app already let you select takeaway, what they could of done is done it as time option. For example could order it within so many minutes before departure.
