I've heard this too. I've had FDCs say they *can* do it, but once you've OLCI'ed it's easiest to just let the process run as is. So they don't do it unless they have to for some reason.

I've heard this both from Hilton and Marriott. If I really want an upgrade, I don't OLCI. If it's just me on a business trip, I always at least try...
