I had another e-mail today from AS following up on my query relating to whether the threshold for beverage service was 350 or 400 miles. They replied to say it's 350 miles, per policy:

Alaska Airlines is pleased to offer beverage services on flights over 350 miles, per policy. In agreement that your flight was over 400 miles, I was stating that a beverage service should have been included. Please accept my sincere apologies for any confusion on the policy as a result of how I worded that. However, whether it be 350 miles or 400 miles, your flight had over the required minimum mileage at 414 miles to receive beverage services. While there are some cases when turbulence or other safety factors may prevent a service, I would like to assure you that your concerns are valid and heard. I have shared your comments with our Inflight Management team so they can review them with our Flight Attendants and ensure we are meeting service expectations inflight.

I would like to once again apologize for your travel experience with us. It is always our desire to exceed the expectations of our customers. In an industry where customer service is a key feature, this is a necessity. Without customer feedback such as yours, the opportunity for improvements would not be as dynamic.
So at least that clears that up! 350 miles and above should get a beverage service in coach....
