As Punaktha is quite far from the airport (4 hours drive), Amankora advises me to do Thimphu 2d, Punakha 2d, Gangtey2d and Paro 2d(in that order) while I would prefer to stick to just 3 lodges (2/3/3), wonder if you were able to find a solution.
We had to push back a little with the reservations team, who strongly recommended we spend the first few nights in Thimphu or Paro in order to adjust to the altitude and in anticipation of any flight delays. We eventually compromised with 1 night in Paro, then 2 at Punakha, followed by Gangtey (their highest altitude lodge at ~9.8K ft) and back to Paro. We let them know that we had traveled in other high altitude places recently and knew we could handle a faster altitude adjustment, and they made our trip timing constraints and the itinerary work!
