I'm seeing as low as $4100 from YVR, which is great! But a flight from SoCal is $700 or so, which is savings of a few hundred but requires time. Still good to know what I options I have.
Now that I go back and take a deeper look; the $C 2 900 ($C = dollar canadian) is only for one leg so actually it's also in the range of $C 5000 - 6000 for both legs (A/R is aller-retour, round trip). Pricey. But given the demand, they can probably get away with it. Otherwise they wouldn't price it that way.

Now that you pinpoint your travel date, it's clear why the fares are higher : it's Easter holiday timeframe so people tend to travel then.

If dates are fixed, you'll have to be ready to fork out to travel J on those dates.....
