It may seem a little ridiculous in that specific area of the country where the result is a bunch of airports. But as someone that lives in the midwest just about every alternative airport is going to be a 2 hours drive away and in certain situations I might have to drive all the way to Chicago to find a flight that is running and has empty seats in the next day so casting a very wide net is the only way to offer realistic recovery options.
