If you book with BA then as a minimum book an economy plus fare as that allows you to change the flight on the day to a later or earlier one for feee.

If your UA flight is delayed so you miss your BA flight then they have no obligations to you re your BA ticket and BA won’t have an obligation to rebook you either.
