Of course, Hyatt/Chase try to confuse confuse their guests/customers by calling them “bonus points” - implying the 4x is a bonus on top of regular earnings when it really isn’t.
Oh, and now they trick you into thinking it’s even 9X.
I don't think it's a trick. Base points count towards status. Everything else is bonus points. This is common terminology among airline and hotel chains.
