As for them not following the T&C, I think the T&C aren’t clear, but how did you think would they actually implement the terms exactly as written? If they want to post the two TQNs in the calendar year in which the spend occurred, but the spend spanned calendar years ($4999 in 2022, $1 in 2023), how would that work? Go by where the bulk is? That would disappoint/confuse people who spend $3000 in 2022 and then $500 every month in 2023, and in April they then pass the threshold and get more nights for the year they have already forgotten about. No, I think if they want to have a rolling counter that doesn’t reset at the end of the year, the implementation is the right one… except that they really need to provide us with a bloody counter in the app/website.
Ahh, I get what you were trying to say now. At the time I didn't understand exactly what Hyatt was doing. In my specific case your $1 example wasn't far off the mark (I think I spend ~$4,910 in Dec). What I want them to do is change their terms to match what the Flyertalk wiki states... which is to add verbiage regarding a "triggering" transaction. That is the key verbiage that allows us to understand how much to put on our card and when. In lieu of that, they need to implement a counter or modify the program to be jan 1 - dec 31. All of those choices are better than their current T&Cs which mislead.
In any event, I now understand exactly how they count and currently know my final Hyatt stay in Dec 2023 will push me over the 2 credit card nights for the year (which I want in 2024, not Dec 2023). I am considering using another cc for that stay but at $1k in spend, I'll be losing 4x Hyatt points which is an annoying pill to swallow. I have broken the stay into 2+2 nights (instead of 4) as I am considering booking the final 2 nights via an OTA instead.
