Just to add to this I have done this on multiple occasions and there are no issues doing this.

One key step is to just ensure you let Air NZ know about these bag tags - so if you're checking in online then make sure you see an Air NZ representative and give them the tag numbers and tell them the bags have been interlined.

Failing to do this does risk the chance your bags might not get loaded on the plane.
