Articles on TK IST-BOG flight and African immigrants

The author highlights the surprising high number of African (male) pax on TK800/801 to BOG; pax allegedly seeking a new future in the US (traveling via BOG to Nicaragua where apparently immigrations law are less strict and then onwards over-land to the US borders). Whilst the article raises a few interesting points on how immigrants paying fortunes for their tickets to doggy organisers (of this illegal human trafficking) it also confirms my impression a few months ago in IST when I took the infamous TK800 to BOG.

Arriving at the gate for my upcoming BOG flight, I was surprised by the sheer numbers of young male African passengers queuing to board the flight. I was in C/J for this flight and there were a few of them in the C/J cabin as well. I have no idea if upgraded by TK or if they had C/J tickets from the outset (that is not the point and immaterial) but they were clearly inexperienced J/C pax (revealed by their insecure behavior during the flight). They all disembarked at BOG before the aircraft continued to PTY. It made me think about the purpose of these guys traveling to Colombia and whilst illegal immigration and human trafficking crossed my mind several times, I was also comforted by thinking "Naah, Colombia would not be the obvious destination for African immigrants seeking a better future" but reading the article I now understand that my suspicion was right and Colombia is indeed a transfer point on the treacherous way to the US.

Just curious if any readers with the same experience when traveling with TK to BOG?
