I think that the flights will probably be a success. Emirates is currently not allowed to fly to BER, so the Eurowings flight is often the best option to travel between BER and DXB.
Eurowings CEO Jens Bischof expects strong demand for the new Dubai routes, and they expected the first flights to be filled about 97%:

He also says in that news article that they think about Cairo and other destinations in the Gulf region.
Although they miss out on all the connecting traffic that EK gets, and are stuck with O&D (from Berling that means "to a tourist destination" = unsually lower margin).
