If you haven’t travelled for a while and have no status with QR, the chances of "complimentary" happening if Y is overbooked are probably even slimmer than the award space for 4 opening up. Your only option is likely to be paying the fare difference to rebook the entire party in the higher cabin

I do have Oneworld Sapphire via Alaska due to domestic travel. Also, what do you mean by "Also, upgrade at the airport is not available from SEA". Where do I find such information? Would it be better to book SFO-BLR ticket then?
