24-hour refund to trip credit
How long does it take to get a trip credit back? Wasn’t expecting this to be a hassle; I cancelled as I got the dates wrong so wanted to just rebook right away!
My scenario:
1) booked a 2 person US domestic flight with trip credits (2 of them) all in person 1 (me)’s name + a small $ on credit card for difference
2) cancelled both within 24 hours
3) person 2’s refund came within 2 days - got a new trip credit in their name for slightly less than half the total cost + the full credit card refund
4) I’m at biz day 6 without a refund (or new trip credit, really) for the main person (me).
It’s very possible this will just self-resolve tomorrow (biz day 7), but in case not, thought I’d ask here…
Refund status page says pending when you put in the original confirmation code or ticket number. When I look at my account in AA app, it shows a travel credit without value, and takes you to refund status page when clicking on it.
When I originally cancelled, the UI said within 7 business days.
Looking now, it says processing on the refund status page on mobile - which says within 7 business days. Refund status page on desktop says they are backlogged, and within 7 business days of credit card, but up to 20 if not (which wasn’t disclosed up front - is that new?)
I called in to check earlier in week and the rep and supervisor were very surprised the tickets were processed separately and thought the cancellation needed to be fixed up as it was now in a broken state - and that he pinged refund department and it would be resolved within an hour. That was 4 days ago.
On Friday, I was on a flight, so while I had time mid-air, I thought I’d check back in and chatted on app, and they also bounced me around with different answers from each - one rep told me it should be done with 72 hours, one said takes 7 days, then later said 7 business days, one said could take up to 2 billing cycles, and one said up to 20 business days. None were aware of any way to contact refund department, other than me filling out a contact form - which I did and haven’t heard back from.
What concerns me is the that one chat rep said, paraphrasing: “I’m not sure if your refund is broke now or not - it looks like it might be; but there’s no way we can check. It’s automated by a computer and we can’t fix nor get to someone who can”
Ideas on what to expect or best way to get the credit back? Thanks!
