Indeed the BA boarding process is like this. It positively encourages gate lice. I do also wish ground staff would police the line and send those not entitled to group 1 to the back. The acceptance that group 1 lines are so large means staff never check eligibility. I repeatedly see higher group numbers on boarding passes in the group 1 line.
