So for the benefit of anyone interested, I can assure you that the chauffeur (and I know several of them) is paid a very low rate for each job. He is required to keep the car in excellent condition at all times as well as ensure the customer receives the best possible experience. Gratuities are at the discretion of the client but will always be a very welcome and important part of the chauffeurs income.
Lots of people are paid a low wages. Should we tip nurses, bus drivers etc?
As mentioned above, Emirates fares are very high, and include chauffeur drive. If the driver feels he/she is underpaid, then they should be going to their employer rather than expecting their customers to supplement their income.
